Brownlow Health’s Farida Laeeq Awarded BEM in King’s Birthday Honours
Saturday, 13 June 2026Brownlow Health is proud to celebrate Farida Laeeq, who has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) in The King’s Birthday Honours in recognition of her outstanding services to refugees, asylum seekers and ethnically diverse communities in Liverpool.
Farida, Care Coordinator for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Global Ethnic Majority Communities, has played a pivotal role in transforming support for some of the city’s most vulnerable populations.
Drawing on her own lived experience as a refugee, Farida brings deep empathy, cultural understanding and insight to her work. Over the past four years, she has helped to design and deliver innovative services that improve access to healthcare, social support and community integration.
Her achievements include the development of a dedicated health assessment clinic for asylum seekers and refugees, alongside an award-winning social prescribing programme delivered in partnership with Liverpool Central Library. These initiatives have helped remove barriers to care while supporting people to build connections and independence within their communities.
Farida supports more than 1,100 asylum seekers and refugees each year, working closely with individuals and families to help them navigate healthcare, housing, education, employment and wider community life. She is widely respected for her ability to build trust and create meaningful connections between communities and public services.
Her contributions have also been recognised nationally and internationally. In 2024, Farida was named Extended Team Member of the Year at the National GP Awards, and in 2025 she received the Social Impact Champion of the Year award at the Global Women Leadership Summit.
Farida’s BEM is a testament to her commitment to tackling inequalities and improving outcomes for displaced and ethnically diverse communities across Liverpool.
Everyone at Brownlow Health is incredibly proud of Farida and the difference she makes every day. Her passion, kindness and determination continue to inspire those around her, and this recognition could not be more deserved.
